A graduation ceremony for the students who completed the Inter-University Programme on International Criminal Law and Procedure (IUP-ICLP) was held on Tuesday, 19 July 2016, in the auditorium of the Maison de L’avocat in Beirut.

173 students successfully completed the fifth edition of the course. The top 16 students were awarded a three-day study trip to The Hague, where they will visit the international judicial institutions in August this year.

The IUP-ICLP was launched in November 2011 by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in cooperation with the T.M.C Asser Instituut in the Netherlands.

The programme brought together ten of the leading universities in Lebanon: the American University of Beirut, American University of Science and Technology, Beirut Arab University, Lebanese University, Notre Dame University, Université La Sagesse, Université Saint Esprit de Kaslik, and Université Saint Joseph. The Lebanese American University and the Academic University for Non Violence and Human Rights joined the programme this year.

The course is the first of its kind in Lebanon and internationally, using modern technology to deliver lectures from The Hague to students in Lebanon, thus providing them with the opportunity to learn from the most eminent international experts in the field.

In the five years since the launch of IUP-ICLP, close to 580 students received certificates of either attendance or completion. More than 100 students were granted a study visit to The Hague.
