The University of La Sagesse (ULS), Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) of the University of Cambridge, and Global ELT Solutions in Beirut (GES Beirut) signed on Thursday February 13 on ULS main campus in Furn e-Shebak their first Memorandum of Understanding to mark the start of a new partnership between them in the area of the English language.

Were present at the signing ceremony the CAE Head of Corporate Partnerships Mr. Nassim Abu Ershaed, the CEO of GES Beirut Mr. Anis el Khoury, ULS Rector Reverend Father Khalil Chalfoun, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Father Richard Abi Saleh, Vice-Rector for Administrative Affairs Father Dominique Labaki, Head of the Language center Dr. Carmen Stambouli, Language center staff and instructors, deans, and heads of departments.

In their presentations, Mr. Abu Ershaed and Mr. el Khoury outlined information related to the C1 exam importance and management. Reverend Father Khalil Chalfoun also gave a statement highlighting the importance of languages and certifications for university students in this day and age.

The purpose of the MoU is to formalize collaboration between CAE and ULS regarding the C1 Advanced Exam by Cambridge. It provides general principles and establishes the terms of collaborative activities between both institutions.

By virtue of this MoU, ULS students having completed their English remedial and other eligible Sagesse students will be able to sit for the C1 Advanced Exam. For this purpose, a preparatory session will be available for them regularly as of summer 2020.

In particular, as outlined under the MoU, ULS/CAE/GES will seek also to run workshops for English instructors.

GES Beirut will work to provide ULS with technical assistance and logistics related to the C1 exam process and the workshops.

With this MoU and enhanced partnership, the University of La Sagesse and its Language center hope to achieve a vision of successful English teaching and active learning experience for their students, widening their access to foreign universities worldwide but also ensuring them the opportunity for a better integration in the professional world.

A reception followed the ceremony.
