The Synodal Pathway: A Theological and Pastoral Formation Program

In a profound initiative to foster a deeper understanding of synodality within the Church, Université La Sagesse, in collaboration with Centro Evangelii Gaudium and the General Secretariat of the Synod, is launching a comprehensive theological and pastoral formation program. This initiative aligns with the Church’s ongoing synodal journey, offering valuable tools for clergy and laity alike, particularly Arabic-speaking individuals.

Partnerships for a Unique Educational Experience

The Faculty of Religious and Theological Sciences at Université La Sagesse, Beirut, Lebanon, has teamed up with distinguished institutions from the Vatican and Italy to offer a unique educational experience. In partnership with the Centro Evangelii Gaudium – Istituto Universitario Sophia and the General Secretariat of the Synod in Rome, this program offers participants the opportunity to engage in meaningful theological and pastoral education, all presented in the Arabic language.

Program Schedule and Accessibility

Running from November 4, 2024, to May 19, 2025, the program is designed for Arabic-speaking priests, consecrated individuals, and laypeople who are keen to deepen their knowledge of the synodal approach in Church leadership. Classes will be held every Monday from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM Beirut time, and participants can join remotely via Teams.

Core Curriculum Components

The curriculum covers three main areas:

    1. Pathways Opened by the General Assembly of the 16th Synod: This module explores the foundations of the Church’s synodal journey, including the history of the Church, spiritual conversations, and the canonical aspects of participation and mission.
    2. New Practices for a Synodal and Missionary Church: This section delves into the innovative practices the Church can adopt to become more synodal. Topics include mission frameworks, environmental concerns, artificial intelligence, and the Church’s role in communication.
    3. The Sacraments of Christian Formation and Synodal Faith Transmission: The final part of the program focuses on how the sacraments and catechesis can be renewed through a synodal lens. Discussions will revolve around the transmission of faith, the role of family, and the participation of young people in the Church.

No Financial Barriers to Learning
